How much you need, where to keep it, and how to get there without derailing daily life.

An emergency fund is the difference between a bad month and a bad year. Aim for three to six months of essential expenses — your needs bucket, not your entire salary.

Keep it liquid and boring: a separate savings account or liquid fund you will not casually dip into.
